MPCC’s International Women’s Day Pledge: Working towards a women-friendly Leeds

MPCC believes empowering women empowers communities. On International Women’s Day, we pledge to advocate for equal opportunities for all, through active support for the Woman Friendly Leeds initiative. Driven by The Women and Girls Alliance, it amplifies female voices, prioritises needs in decision-making, and empowers for safer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives. This movement envisions a Leeds where women’s strengths are celebrated, contributing to a future of gender equality, aligning seamlessly with MPCC’s core values.

MPCC pledges to:

‘champion a women-friendly workplace in Leeds. Our goal is to empower more women to pursue roles in STEM industries and support their progression into senior positions within our company. We commit to offering resources, mentorship, and growth opportunities that have a lasting impact, not only within our organisation but also contributing to the overall progress and success of our community.’

Where we stand:

As we embark on this journey, we recognise the importance of transparency. Our organisation is actively striving for equal representation. We currently employ 23 men and 11 women, with a notable achievement of 5 women holding senior and management positions. In 2019, there were only 4 women in the entire business – That’s 275% growth in the last 5 years. We’re proud to be actively supporting three women through upskilling and career development initiatives, ensuring they have the tools they need to thrive within our organisation. A testament to the inclusive culture we’re fostering and the strides we’re making towards creating an environment where everyone feels valued and heard.

Join us in Making a Difference:

To meet our objectives, we will prioritise internal mentorship programmes and involve ourselves with local schools and colleges via career open day events during Manufacturing & Engineering Week. Our strategic approach places a strong emphasis on making STEM careers more accessible to women and fostering an inclusive culture.

By taking these steps, we aim to create an environment where female employees can excel and progress into leadership positions. Our initiatives will help ensure that MPCC reflects the diversity of the community we serve and contributes to the overall progress and success of each and every colleague.
